Jacks Fork, Buck Hollow to Ebb and Flow Spring (June, 2008)

By the time we got back on the river for the last 3 miles or so to the take-out, it was getting to be later in the afternoon.  I took this photo at 5pm and you can see the afternoon light starting duck behind the hills and only hit spots along the river.

This is my favorite time to be floating.  The river seems to slow down just a bit and you've had all day to tune into what's happening in the natural environment all around you.  Most folks have staked out campsites if they are spending the night or have run out of beer and paddled faster to their take-out points.  Everything is quiet from a human standpoint but it is a time when nature is out and around after the heat of the day and before dark sets in.  It's a great time to be drifting down a Missouri float stream!
