Camelback Mountain - Phoenix, AZ (September, 2002)

With several hours to kill after checking out and before getting to the airport, we decided to try to conquer Camelback mountain.

The trail was short but steep--1.2 miles up to the 2,704 foot summit.  It was a Sunday afternoon so the trail, well-worn already, was absolutely stuffed full of people looking to enjoy the day.

Camelback is situated between Phoenix, Tempe and Scottsdale and is the highest mountain in the Phoenix area.  It is part of a small "range" that splits the "Valley of the Sun" that holds Phoenix.  For a shot I took of Camelback from 30,000 feet in the air, click here.
