Tuzigoot was built on a hill on the banks
of the Verde River--a great location to keep an eye on everything
but yet very close to the vital resource of water. You can see
the riparian zone of the river just past the ruins.
The ruins are just a short bit up the
hillside from the parking lot and visitor center. The paved
walkway takes you around the main part of the ruins, explaining
different features of native life along the way.
Tuzigoot was built by the Sinagua
Indians beginning in 1000 A.D. and its 97 rooms housed several
hundred people. |
