Abrams Falls, Great Smoky Mountains National Park (October 2008)

On a rainy Friday morning we decided to get up early and head from our cabin in North Carolina across the park to the Cades Cove area and hike to see Abrams Falls.

As we drug ourselves out of bed it was pouring down rain and the forecast didn't look good.  But we trudged ahead anyway.  After a difficult 2½ hour drive we arrived at the trail and and like magic the rain stopped, the clouds even broke for a second, and we got the entire 2.5 mile out and back in with on a sprinkle or two.  Five minutes after we got back we were eating lunch in the back for the rental SUV and the rain started again.  What luck!

This is the bridge right off the parking lot to start the trail to Abrams Falls.
