Laurel Falls, Great Smoky Mountains National Park (October 2008)

The ranger told us that the falls were flowing but nothing spectacular (since it was fall) and that the real highlight of the trip was the foliage.  It was pretty impressive and like I said, most of the trail was in the forest so you were surrounded by views just like this.

We were there on the 23rd of October and they'd had a good year for fall colors.  And I think we pretty much timed the peak just right for down in the lower elevations.  You could tell the higher locations had probably peaked the week earlier.
