Nantahala National Forest, North Carolina (October 2008)

On our drive up from Atlanta to our cabin on the south side of Great Smoky Mountain National Park we decided to make a few side trips during the late afternoon to find some waterfalls and take in some scenic drives.

Our trip took us north of Atlanta on US Highway 441.  At Dillard, GA we veered of onto Highway 106 to Highlands, NC.  The 30 minute drive took us to a trailhead to a short hike to see Glen Falls.

The trail is only about 1.5 miles round trip and you can cut it short when you've seen enough.  Shown here is the view from the bottom of the upper section of Glen Falls.

A viewing platform (top right) provides a nice view from above for not much hiking...a few more switchbacks will land you this.
