Monterey Bay Aquarium, in Monterey, California, has to be the best aquarium facility in the U.S.  Though I haven't been to all of them I have been to a number of the big name ones and this one takes the cake.

Located on "historic" Cannery Row, the aquarium takes a very unique and creative approach to all its displays and is very visitor-friendly with the ability to deal with large crowds but not seem over-crowded.  On a personal note, the Jellyfish displays are spectacular!

Seashore birds in a habitat with very close viewing

The birds lived on a small beach with wave action and all

Normally birds aren't this interesting but the close range was fun
