Zhengzhou, Henan Province (May, 2007)

Zhengzhou is the first city visited on our trip, so it was my first impression of China.  (Our flight came into Beijing, of course, and we then switched to a domestic flight and headed straight here.)  It is about an hour and a half flight south (and just a tad west) of Beijing and is located inland about equidistant from Beijing and Shanghai and is the capital city of Henan Province.

The streets at night were alive and bustling and the the bright lights drew us out to shoot some photos and explore.  They also drew us some attention as westerners out walking around.  Click here for a photo I shot moments before the girl seated made an aggressive move to luring us into a "massage."  Our Chinese friend with us quickly taught us that's not what she was really selling.
