Behind the REI
store was the Platte River and a nice park and trail. (The
bridge is Speer Blvd.)
They had dammed
up a bit of the river and built a waterfall on one side and
hydraulics on the other side. The rapids were intentionally built
for kayaker and canoes to navigate. Pretty sweet. Click

We weren't
sure, but you might have been able to test run kayaks from REI
there.
