What caused all the interesting rock
formation? Well short of the long is this. Sedimentary
rock was laid down as this area was then flat and under a sea.
As the sea eroded and the mountains to the west of here were pushed
up (mounding) and built up (eruptions) the old sedimentary area all
along the front range was tilled straight up. It is now
eroding down and will eventually be gone..
