Trail Ridge Road (Rocky Mtn. NP), Colorado (Sept. 2001)

From Grand Lake the road heads north and then cuts east to Estes Park.  The northernly portion is in the wide valley carved by the headwaters of the great Colorado River.  (The river later carves out the Grand Canyon on its march to the Gulf of California and the Pacific Ocean.)

This shot of the Colorado valley (from the Bowen / Baker trailhead) shows the expanse and the grasslands where lots of elk and moose like to graze.
