The Drive Out, North Carolina Vacation (June, 2012)

To celebrate Mom's (and sort of Dad's) retirement they came up with the idea of the whole family heading out on a vacation together.  It would be the first time since in 1996 and involved four separate families coming together for one week on a North Carolina beach.  Of course for me getting there (and back) was going to be half the fun!

We decided to leave at a decent time (8am) and spend most of the day driving to Pigeon Forge, TN--a total distance of 633 miles.

Pictured is the confluence of the Mississippi and Ohio Rivers at Cairo, IL.  It is amazing how wide it is here! (Over 1 mile across!) Although just for a few moments, we were in Illinois and all told we were in 10 states on this trip.
