Statue of Liberty / Ellis Island, New York City (July, 2003)

A common symbol of American freedom, the Statue of Liberty is a must for every patriotic tourist, but especially for 33% of the U.S. population that can trace its ancestors back to Ellis Island.

Though it is impressive and a cultural icon, the Statue of Liberty isn't all that exciting.  The statue, base, and museum have been closed indefinitely since September 11th.  Plus the statue itself falls into that "things in New York that aren't as big as TV makes them look" category.

The only way to get there is by ferry, operated by the NPS, from Battery Park.  For more info click here.
