What I said about not finding phenomenal food didn't apply to this place!  La Mela Ristorante, in the Little Italy district, was great Italian.  Click here for their site.

Served family style, the place has a pre-set menu and they just keep it coming.  Appetizer, anti-pasta, pasta, and dessert for 2 plus 4 glasses of wine and tip was just $75.  We left full enough to puke!  The food was so good we couldn't stop eating it.
