One Day In New York City (June, 2008)

To start our 24 hours of seeing the city we headed out on a long subway ride to General Grant National Memorial, otherwise known as Grant's Tomb.

It is in a part of the city we've not spent any time in and wanted to check out.  (It's in Morningside Heights up on the upper west side near Columbia University, north of Central Park around 123rd.)

The remains of General/President Ulysses S. Grant and his wife Julia are entombed here and the mausoleum (the largest in North America) which is also a museum to the interesting life of Grant.

It is a really neat building and while small, the museum is well done.  We also enjoyed the peaceful grounds. More photos later in the slideshow.
