Most anyone who knows anything about San
Antonio is aware of the Alamo as it is probably the most famous
mission in country. However, few know that is it only one in
string of five remaining missions built along the San Antonio River
in the late 1600s and early 1700s.
The other four--Concepcion, San Jose,
San Juan, and Espada--are under the control of the National Parks
Service. (The Alamo is controlled by the non-profit group
Daughters of the Republic of Texas.) While some of the mission
buildings have been restored, others appear to have aged 400 years,
but still remain somewhat intact. |
