The first one downriver from the Alamo
(located in downtown) is Mission Concepcion or Mission Nuestra
Señora de la Purisima Concepción de Acuña. (Whew! Good
thing Spanish is a fast language.)
The sanctuary was impressive, though
slightly smaller than San Jose, and there were plenty of interesting
hallways to wander down and side rooms with original frescos to peek
your head into.
Concepcion is unique because it is
oldest unrestored stone church in the US (built in 1755). And,
something I learned at this one is that all the stone was usually
quarried onsite.
