Here's a photo my dad has from when he was
out in the area right about the same time we were. It's taken just outside of Amboy (which is north of 29 Palms.) It's of a volcanic cone. About 150 feet high the volcano isn't active, but it shows signs of activity in this aerial photo. Click here. Note the dark areas that indicate old lava flows.
