After hiking The Narrows all day in Zion
we planned to head out from there and get to Bryce in time to roll
in to our campsite, set up camp and fix dinner before the light gave
way on the longest day of the year. The plan worked great!
A little over a 2 hour drive from the
5,000 foot elevations in Zion the 8,000 foot elevations on the rim
of Bryce Canyon were a welcomed escape from the desert heat.
The elevation and the distance from any sizable city (light
pollution source) gives Bryce one of the highest limiting magnitude
rating for stargazing. (7,500 stars can be seen on a clear
night.) So, we picked a great campsite (North Campground, Loop
C, site 60) that was 10 steps away from overlooking the canyon.
The stars were amazing! |
