Cedar Breaks National Monument, Utah (June, 2007)

As we were wrapping up our day in Bryce and preparing to head back into Las Vegas, we made a last minute decision to drive through Cedar Breaks and check it out for an hour or so.  That route (from Bryce through Cedar Breaks down to I-15) took us past some very interesting areas.

First of all we came across this beautiful lake, Panguitch Lake, on Utah Highway 143.  On the south end there were quite a few homes and cabins that looked like they were taking great advantage of the scenery.

The lake is in the Dixie National Forest which covers much of the surrounding area and much of the southwest Utah area.  Just passed the lake there were some interesting rock piles that I later confirmed were natural basalt.
