After a few miles the trail went up and
over the point and made an easterly turn to drop down and follow along
side of La Verkin Creek. This view is near the first glimpse of
the creek and it was an impressive one. There were three small
falls on the creek, the largest of which is pictured at the bottom of
the photo. (A smaller one is visible further upstream.)
We stopped here to drop our packs for a
bit, drink some water, and filter some more. By this point is
was around noon or 1pm and the sun was really starting to heat things
up. The Kolob Canyons area is quite a bit higher in elevation
than the Zion Canyon Area and as a result can have temperatures up to
10 degrees cooler, but it is still a desert. |
