Adventures

We go all over! I’ve been to 49 states and Mel has hit nearly as many. While we have our favorite spots for adventure, we’ve found that this country is full of spots where you can get away, get out there, and get energized! We aren’t against traveling internationally, we just aren’t there yet. Still plenty to explore in this great country! Our path to scoping out adventure is usually an approachable one that won’t require special skills or break the bank and will probably land you in a spot to celebrate over a beer!

Southeast Utah Adventure Trip (2018)

Each March our family tries to shake the winter blues and head somewhere sunny and warm, usually to the Desert Southwest.  This year we set our sites on the canyons and sandstone of southeastern Utah. Surprises lay around every corner as we hiked through slot canyons, drove up to viewpoints, and generally explored our way around Arches, Capitol Reef, and Canyonlands National Parks, as well as whole host of other federal lands.

Bend, Oregon Adventure Trip (2018)

We headed out with our awesome adventure friends, Brian and Abby, to spend the better part of a week in Bend, OR. After spending a day there a year before, we knew we needed to come back and to bring them with us–so much to do outside, so many great places to hang out! We hiked, kayaked, mountain biked, drank craft beer, ate good food and basically just enjoyed life (and our temporary reprieve from kids)!

Mt. Rainier Trip Report (Sep 2018)

With just a day for the two of us (before our friends Brian and Abby flew in and we were off to Bend, OR) we both quickly decided to check out Mt. Rainier National Park. Wow! We were both blown away by the beauty and accessibility of so much great stuff. We hiked through the fog, the fall colors, the rain forests, and glacial landscape in several areas of the park and got a great taste of all the park has to offer. We’ll be back for sure!

Florida Keys – Dec 2018

For several years in a row now, Melissa and I have carried on a tradition of getting in one last get away for the year.  We usually focus on relaxing, eating, drinking, and exploring at a leisurely place.  We’ve discovered airfare to Florida and hotels are fairly cheap this time of year and my parents enjoy keeping the kids for 4 or days or so to do Christmas stuff with them.  It works out perfect!  This year we went to chill in one of our favorite spots–Key West.
