Hammons Field, Springfield, Missouri (April 2004)

The $32 million stadium was built to accommodate the SMSU baseball team (coming off a 2003 College World Series appearance) and a AA minor league team.  SMS played their 2004 season here and a AA team will hopefully be announced soon to begin play in 2005.

UPDATE:  That minor league team is the Springfield Cardinals--AA affiliate of the St. Louis Cardinals.  The team is not only a farm club of the St. Louis team but it is also owned by the Cardinals ownership group.  The announcement was made in 2004 to the disbelief of the Texas League president who had been saying all along that there was no way it could happen.
