Alum Cove Natural Bridge, Buffalo River (October, 2009)

The trail is not very long at just 1.1 miles.  This includes the out-and-back leg to the natural bridge and the loop from there that goes out to a few other geologic features.

This is part of the out-and-back leg and it switchbacks from the parking lot down a few hundred feet to the natural bridge.  As you can see the area also had a significant amount of ice storm damage.  The Forest Service had cleared the trail to the natural bridge, as you can see, but they hadn't gotten beyond that.  We decided to give it a try and it was a challenge to say the least.  You basically had to just follow your nose and hoped you were still heading in the right direction.  The trail was covered pretty significantly and you had a hard time finding it most of the time.
