Old River Trail, Compton to Ponca (September, 2002)

As we neared the end of the hike we were pretty hot and tired and sick of carrying all our gear.  We could hear the vehicles as we got closer and closer to Ponca and as soon as the trail headed across the river for the last time we knew we were at the end.  Mel, noting the perfect swimming hole, dropped her pack and plunged head first into the water, boots and all!  Within seconds we all joined her and relaxed in the cool waters of the Buffalo, celebrating a successful trip.  It was a perfect end to a great adventure.

The water level had been great--not too much to make crossing troublesome, yet running enough to get clean water to filter and provide a few fantastic swimming holes just like this one!
