Old River Trail, Compton to Ponca (September, 2002)

Like I said this was a backpacking trip so after hiking the 3½ miles we found the "campspot" we had in mind.  It was empty and the time was about 5pm so we decided to set up camp, filter some water, relax, and enjoy the great outdoors.

The location is near where the trail out of Hemmed-In Hollow, the Old River Trail, and the Buffalo River Trail connector from Slaty Place all meet.  I have prepared a map of the entire hike and you can view it here.

The site was right near a bedrock "slab" that ended in a cliff down to the Buffalo River.  Click here to see the "slab."
