We couldn't touch the bottom and the
current was way too much to try to swim while pulling the boat.
We had to let go and swim to shore, the cold, 48º water was taking
our breath away. I yelled to Brent for some help but as far as
I could tell he couldn't hear me because he didn't change is course
which was straight to shore. Apparently he'd taken on a lot of
water too. As soon as he grounded his canoe, he ran into the
water after our boat. (What a stud!) The high was 55 and
it sunny so using the hypothermia rule of thumb that total was over
100 but it was still freezing!
Exactly how we lost it I'll never know, and how shortly after us
some idiots ran their boat straight into that slab and stayed up
I'll never know either. Check out some video
of the waves train. |
