It worked! Up by 6:30am, we were
packed and loaded and out of there by a few minutes after 7 o'clock.
As we floated by the only company we had were the birds, large and
small, flying down around the river as well.
The first day we spent a little over 5
hours in the on river (not all of that in the boat) and traveled 13
miles. We like to paddle when in the water but we took our
time at the stops and still covered that kind of ground. The
river moves quick! In fact, the river gradient from Montauk to
Akers is 8.7 feet per mile and from Akers to Two Rivers is 5.0.
We only had about 7 miles to go to
our take-out.
