Current River, Akers to Round Spring (July, 2007)

We reached it in an hour and a half.  We rounded a bend and were on the river right with this bridge just popping up out of nowhere.  Of course, the take-out was on the river left so we had to cross the current and end in a mad paddling dash.

As I mentioned the gradient is about 5.0 feet per mile, but the section from Sinking Creek (through Round Spring) to Big Creek, a distance of 6½ miles, is 10 feet per mile.  This was obvious to us as we blew through this part of the river to our take-out and were unloaded and ready to go by a little after 9am.

On our way to Akers the day before we dropped a key and paid Carr's $35 to shuttle our vehicle from Akers back to Round Springs.  They were very nice!
