After hiking several days in the desert
and knowing we'd hike a few more before returning home, we decided we
needed a break. What was nice, was the alpine forests just
southeast of Flagstaff weren't a far drive from Sedona.
The area shown here is about 7,800 feet
above sea level. The forests are dominated by pines (mainly
Ponderosa), and dotted with aspens (higher elevations) and oaks (lower
elevations), making for a real "Colorado" feel.
The trail we chose was Mormon Mountain
Trail. It started at around 7,000 ft. asl and ascended to 8450
ft. asl to the top of Mormon Mountain, all covering a distance of over
3 miles. |
