The zoo itself was very nice, with
well-kept grounds and lots of old trees and neat rock buildings,
most made by the WPA in the 1930s. It is just off of Fair Park
Blvd which is a typical "mid-town" area with other municipal uses
(old golf course, old baseball field, old stadium, big hospital,
etc.) surrounded by residential. Reminded my of a Forest Park type
area (in St. Louis), but not as nice and without the really high-end
homes. Today it has over 700
animals and has a nice flow throughout so you can see just about
everything in a logical path.
All in all we spent about 2-3 hours
there, but it was the heat of the day and we did need to get going
to get back and head to the ball game. |
