Northwest Arkansas (August, 2009)

The one to make sure you stop at is the Elkhorn Tavern.  It is the only original building of any sort of significance.  We were there on a Saturday so they had the building open with a man (in character) describing surgical procedures during the Civil War.  It hurt just listening to him.

In addition to being part of a Civil War battle, the owners of this house also watched 11,000 Cherokee walk by as the Trail of Tears passed right by the home.

All in all we spent about an hour at Pea Ridge and that was hurrying through so we get a feel for the national battlefield but not get behind in our sightseeing for the day.
