We started out in the visitors center,
checking things out. They have a very small and uneventful
museum and a 30 minute movie (that seems a bit long for me) and no
other cool indications of how the battle played out (unlike Wilson's
Creek with it's cool light up model).
To experience Pea Ridge battlefield you
just have to get out there. There are plenty of options for
that from miles of hiking trails, equestrian trails and a 7-mile
one-way loop road that was used by runners, bikers and vehicles.
The scenery is pretty with lots of
split rail fences and tons of cannons. There are about a dozen
stops with information about the battle and human history, like at
this spot two Confederate generals were killed. |
