All Around Manhattan, New York City (September, 2006)

The only way to get around NYC is via the subway.  With dozens of lines and hundreds of stops it'll take you pretty much everywhere you want to go and for $2!  (Well, everywhere except La Guardia!)

If you'll be in town for several days the best thing to do is to buy an unlimited rides pass.  That will save you a lot of money in the long run.  Click here for a map.

If you haven't ridden the New York City subway before, keep in mind it is pretty old.  Nicer, newer systems like the DC Metro or any of the light-rail systems across the country have all the creature-comforts a modern transit system can afford but the NYC system has, let's call it "character."  Adding to that, we saw our first rat crawling around between the tracks this trip!  =)
