Hickory Run State Park, Pennsylvania (September, 2003)

Who would have thought?  One of the most geologically bizarre places I've ever been, and it's here in the Pocono Mountains of NE Pennsylvania.

Even without "The Boulder Field" Hickory Run State Park is a nice park in itself, but the boulder field steals the show.  It is, as you can see, a huge flat field of boulders mostly devoid of trees.

The field of hand-sized to human-sized boulders averages about 12 feet thick.  It was...history.
