If you had to choose one building that was
the most important in the formation and early years of the United
States this would have to be it--Independence Hall.
Built as the Philadephia courthouse the
building was offered to the "rebel" leaders meeting to create the
Declaration of Independence. Eleven years later the scene
repeated itself as a struggling fledgling country needed to develop a
governing document (and an ensuing government). A Constitutional
Convention was assembled and for nearly a year the details were
debated until the delegates arrived at our U.S. Constitution. |
