Our main intent in going to Zion National
Park was to do a multi-day backpacking trip. And, we were looking
to avoid the crowds of people, the technical aspects of the slot
canyons, and even some of the desert heat all of which exist in the Zion
Canyon area. So a couple days on the La Verkin Creek Trail were
just the ticket. Zion has two
parts, the slot canyons in and around the Virgin River and the Kolob
Canyons area to the northwest. La Verkin Creek runs through the
heart of the Kolob Canyons area.
This is the view from the trailhead
looking down into the Timber Creek drainage which holds the first few
miles of the trail. For a panoramic view from this vantage point
