Zion Canyon Area, Zion National Park, UT (May, 2005)

One advantage to the surplus of water is that there are what are normally only wet-weather or "rain event" waterfalls consistently flowing in Zion Canyon.

What caused the high water conditions this year was a very snowy winter and much larger snow pack to melt off and this year's spring brought more than twice the amount of rain that Zion normally receives.  So the water was not only rushing, but was still carrying plenty of sediment and was COLD.  The day we were there the Virgin River was running at 46ºF.
