National World War II Memorial, Washington DC (August, 2004)

I mentioned the effort back home.  One aspect that really kind of drives this home is that there's a decorated pillar for every U.S. state and territory.  When you start to add all that up you start to get an idea of how huge this war effort was.  Here's Missouri's.

We found the best time to visit the memorial was in the evening.  The lighting is incredible the mood is completely different than during the day.  If it doesn't stay on 24-hours a day it at least stays on pretty late at night so there's always time to stop by and spend some time.
