The Old River Trail is a great linear
trail for a couple of reasons. One is it works well for those
who don't hike very often and for newbies, because it is fairly level.
It mirrors the river the whole way and changes elevation very little.
The other reason is it crosses the river constantly. That can be
great in the summer to cool off in, and it is nice year-round as a
source of drinking water (filtered, of course).
However, one of the problems is the trail
doesn't receive much maintenance and since it is usually in the
riparian zone (near the stream) it is thick with growth.
Sometimes the weeds can completely cover the trail. Not a
problem...unless you don't like chiggers. (We got eaten alive,
100% DEET and everything!!) |
